Streaming Vinyl Audio to AirPlay Devices
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to stream your vinyl audio to AirPlay devices, specifically Apple TVs, without needing a pairing code. This method is straightforward and allows you to enjoy your record collection wirelessly.
What You’ll Need
- A turntable with a built-in preamp or an external phono preamp
- A USB audio interface (I used the iConnectivity iConnectAUDIO2+)
- An Apple TV (4th generation or later)
- An AirPlay-compatible speaker or receiver (optional)
Setup Instructions
1. Connect your turntable to the USB audio interface using RCA cables.
2. Connect the USB audio interface to your computer via USB.
3. Open your preferred audio playback software on your computer (I used Audacity). Set it to record from the USB audio interface and play through its default output.
4. Start playing a vinyl record on your turntable. The audio should now be streaming to your computer and can be heard through your speakers or headphones.
5. On your Apple TV, open the Music app and select the “Now Playing” tab at the bottom of the screen.
6. Tap the “AirPlay” button (it looks like a triangle with three concentric circles). Your computer should appear in the list of available devices. Select it to start streaming audio from your computer to your Apple TV.
7. If you have an AirPlay-compatible speaker or receiver connected to your Apple TV, the audio will play through that device instead. You can adjust the volume using the Siri Remote or the volume controls in the Music app.
Enjoying Your Record Collection Wirelessly
With this setup, you can wirelessly stream vinyl audio to your Apple TV and enjoy your record collection without being tethered to your turntable. It’s perfect for parties, background music, or simply wanting to listen to your favorite albums hands-free.
