Neakasa M1 Automatic Litter Box Review

A month ago, I purchased the Neakasa M1 automatic litter box off Amazon and after using it extensively, here’s my in-depth review to help you decide if it’s worth your consideration.

First Impressions & Setup

The Neakasa M1 arrived well-packaged. Assembly was straightforward, with no tools required. It has a sleek design that blends well with modern home decor.

How the Neakasa M1 Works

The M1 uses an internal rake system to clean itself after each use. Here’s how it works:

  • Your cat enters the box and does its business.
  • The M1 detects your cat leaving and automatically starts cleaning, pushing waste into a sealed compartment.
  • After 30 minutes (which can be adjusted via the app), the M1 dispenses fresh litter from its top refill station.

Pros & Cons

Here are the pros and cons I’ve experienced with the Neakasa M1:

  • Pros: Quiet operation, effective cleaning, easy to clean, app connectivity for monitoring usage, adjustable cleaning cycle.
  • Cons: High initial cost, requires frequent litter refills (especially with multiple cats), waste compartment needs regular emptying.

Best Litter for the Neakasa M1

The Neakasa M1 works best with unscented, clumping litter. I’ve had good results using Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter.

Getting Cats Used to the M1

Some cats may need time to adjust to the automatic cleaning feature. Here are some tips:

  • Place the M1 in a location your cat is familiar with.
  • Let your cat explore and sniff around the new litter box.
  • Once your cat starts using the M1, wait until it leaves before triggering the cleaning cycle manually to prevent scaring your cat.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The Neakasa M1 is easy to clean. The waste compartment should be emptied weekly, and the litter box itself can be wiped down with mild soap and water as needed.

Verdict

The Neakasa M1 is a high-quality automatic litter box that works well, is quiet, and easy to maintain. Despite its high initial cost and ongoing litter refills, it’s a solid investment for those looking for a low-effort solution to keep their cat happy and their home clean.
