Can’t Add Device to Apple HomeKit? Here Are 5 Things to Try!
When a new HomeKit device refuses to connect and you’re met with the dreaded ‘Canโt add accessory’ message, don’t worry. I’ve got five tried-and-true solutions that have worked for me every time.
Before You Start
Make sure your device is compatible with HomeKit and that it’s powered on and within range of your iOS device.
1. Restart Your Device
Sometimes, simply restarting your iPhone or iPad can resolve connectivity issues. After restarting, try adding the device again.
2. Check for Software Updates
Ensure both your device and the Home app are running the latest software versions. Outdated software can cause compatibility issues.
3. Delete and Re-add the Device
If the device is already paired but you’re experiencing issues, try deleting it from the Home app and then re-adding it.
- Tap on the Home tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
- Tap Delete Accessory next to the problematic device.
- Confirm by tapping Delete again.
- Try adding the device back into your Home setup.
4. Reset All Settings on Your Device
This will reset your network settings, which can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
5. Contact the Device Manufacturer
If none of the above solutions work, there might be a problem with the device itself. Reach out to the manufacturer for further assistance.
