Running Govee Scenes in Apple Home Automation

Verdict: Despite Apple’s support for static colors only, you can still enjoy dynamic Govee scenes in your Apple Home automation. Here’s how to make it work.

Preparation

Before we start, ensure you have the following:

• Govee Christmas Lights 2 (Matter compatible)
• Access to the Govee API

Finding Required IDs and Addresses

To run a specific scene, you’ll need its ID. Here’s how to find it:

1. Sign up for the Govee API.
2. Locate your device ID and MAC address in the Govee app or on the device itself.
3. Find the scene ID you want to use. You can do this by checking the scene’s properties in the Govee app or API documentation.

Integrating with Apple Home

Now that you have all the necessary IDs and addresses, it’s time to integrate your Govee device with Apple Home:

4. Add your Govee device to the Apple Home app using its MAC address.
5. Create a new automation in the Apple Home app. Set the trigger as “When [your Govee device] is turned on”.
6. For the action, select “Run Siri Shortcut”. Choose the shortcut you’ve created with the scene ID you want to run.

Now, whenever you turn on your Govee Christmas Lights 2 in Apple Home, it will run the dynamic scene you’ve specified!
