As a tech enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for innovative products that can make my life easier and more comfortable. When Dreo reached out to me with their smart misting fan, I was excited to put it through its paces and see if it could live up to its promises.

Design and Build Quality

The first thing I noticed about the Dreo TurboCool 516S is its sleek and modern design. The dark grey finish looks great in any room, and the LED display on the front adds a touch of sophistication. However, I was pleased to find that the display can be toggled off in the app, which is perfect for using the fan in a bedroom or at night.

The back of the fan has a removable 1.3L tank for adding water, but it’s worth noting that the fan can still operate without water. This is a great feature, as it means you don’t have to worry about running out of water during extended use. The fan also comes with a simple remote control, which is always a nice touch.

Specifications and Features

One of the standout features of the Dreo TurboCool 516S is its impressive specifications. On a low mist setting, you can get up to 12 hours of run time with one fill, or 3.5 hours on turbo mode. The fan also has power off memory, so your oscillating settings and speed settings will be remembered even when the fan is turned off.

Another notable feature is its quiet operation. On its quietest mode, the fan produces a mere 20db of noise, which is impressive for a device that’s designed to provide cooling relief.

Smart Features

The Dreo TurboCool 516S comes with an app that allows you to control the fan remotely and access additional features. The app works seamlessly with Alexa and Google Home, but unfortunately, it doesn’t have native Apple Home integration (although there are workarounds available). However, the official Home Assistant plugin or unofficial HomeBridge plugin can help get around this issue.

The app allows you to create custom settings, schedules, and timers, as well as access basic information like temperature and humidity levels in the room. You can also export some of these settings as Siri Shortcuts for quick access on your home screen.

Setup and Usage

Setting up the Dreo TurboCool 516S is a breeze. Simply plug it in, add water to the tank, and pop some batteries into the remote (if you want to use it). Then, download the Dreo app and follow the instructions to connect the fan and set up your desired settings.

I found that the fan connected quickly and easily with no issues at all. I was able to name it, assign it to a room, and access all of its features without any problems.

Real-World Experience

As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t get to test the fan in extreme heat conditions (summer hasn’t arrived yet!). However, I did get to use it in my office during some warmer days, and I was impressed by its performance. The misting feature is incredibly effective at providing cooling relief, and the fact that it doesn’t feel damp or wet makes it a great option for personal use.

I also appreciated the power off memory feature, which ensures that your settings are remembered even when the fan is turned off. The water tank lasts as long as promised (up to 12 hours on low mist), and refilling it is easy and convenient.

Verdict

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Dreo TurboCool 516S smart misting fan. Its sleek design, impressive specifications, and effective cooling performance make it a great option for anyone looking to stay cool in their home or office. While it may not be as invasive as a portable air conditioner, it’s certainly more effective than a regular fan thanks to its misting feature.

At £100, I think the Dreo TurboCool 516S is good value, especially considering its smart features and built-in temperature and humidity sensor. If you’re in the market for a personal cooling solution that won’t break the bank, this is definitely worth considering.

Downsides

One potential downside of the Dreo TurboCool 516S is its lack of native Apple Home integration. However, as I mentioned earlier, there are workarounds available through the official Home Assistant plugin or unofficial HomeBridge plugin.

Another consideration is that this fan is more suited for personal use rather than room-wide cooling. While it can make a significant impact when used near you, its effectiveness may be reduced if it’s placed far away from you in a room during hot weather.

The Morphy Richards S1 Pro is a great portable Air Conditioner but mine was recently leaving the carpet soaking wet regardless of mode and occasionally came up with a P04 error. That error code is not in the manual nor is any way to fix the leak but this is what Morphy Richards said…it might need descaling! WTF isn’t this in the manual!

Here’s what they said (copied/pasted from email)…why don’t they want us to know this out the box?

It may be due to the accumulation of scale. We recommend that you perform a descaling operation first. To avoid damage to the floor due to water leakage during the descaling process, it is recommended to run the descaling operation in the bathroom.

Please follow the below steps:

First, drain the water from the chassis.

Add citric acid or baking soda to the water tank at a 5% ratio (i.e., add 75g of citric acid or baking soda if the water tank is full).

Reinstall the water tank onto the machine, then power on and start the machine.

Once the water in the chassis is full and overflows, turn off and disconnect the power.

Wait for a period of time, then drain the water from the chassis again.

Power on and start the machine again to check if the water leakage has improved.

If there is still water leakage, repeat steps 2-3 above 2-3 times.

Watch the full video review of the Morphy Richards S1 Pro ductless air conditioner

This is Mark from Mark’s Tech Blogs, and in this post, I’m reviewing the Morphy Richards S1 Pro ductless air conditioner, a unique portable cooling solution that I originally backed via Kickstarter.

I paid approximately £420 including shipping through the Kickstarter campaign—considerably less than the current retail price of around £700. That puts this device at the higher end of the pricing scale compared to other portable air conditioners. However, as you’ll see, comparing this directly with traditional portable air conditioners is tricky due to its unique ductless design and lack of a traditional BTU rating.

Morphy Richards S1 Pro Specifications

3-in-1 functionality: Cooling, Fan, and Dehumidifier modes

2L water tank (used for cooling, collects moisture in dehumidifier mode)

50 dB noise level on quieter modes — quieter than many portable air conditioners

Uses R290 refrigerant and water-based cooling instead of a traditional duct

Optional ducting (not included or sold by Morphy Richards)

Horizontal and vertical oscillation (independently toggleable, 50° range)

Energy rating: A

Effective cooling radius: ~2 meters (best suited to small rooms)

Built-in light with colour changes per mode (cannot be fully disabled)

Touch panel and remote control included

Bluetooth enabled; controlled via the TUYA app

Not natively Apple Home compatible (can be added with Homebridge)

Removable, cleanable filters for easy maintenance

2-year warranty (+ registration extension)

Design & Build Quality

The Morphy Richards S1 Pro ductless air conditioner features an elegant black and silver aesthetic, a stylish top fan with lighting underneath, and a responsive touch panel. Measuring 80cm high, 28.5cm wide, and 34cm deep, it weighs 15.5kg and includes caster wheels and a 1.8m power cord for easy portability.

The included remote control features tactile buttons and a stand, though it’s worth noting that it doesn’t include batteries—an odd omission at this price point.

Setup Process

Setup is plug-and-play, requiring only removal of the front panel to fill the water tank. Pairing with the TUYA or Smart Life app is straightforward: download the app, hold the power button to initiate pairing mode, and connect to Wi-Fi.

Once connected, the device supports automations, schedules, and remote control via the app—perfect for smart home users, though it lacks native Apple HomeKit integration (workarounds like TUYA Homebridge exist).

Functionality & Real-World Use

Dehumidifier Mode

In dehumidifier mode, the device displays humidity on the panel and in the TUYA app. You can set timers, schedules, and toggle swing modes. The generous 2L tank gives it a leg up over smaller combo units.

Fan Mode

Fan mode offers three speeds: low, high, and super. Like the other modes, it supports horizontal and vertical swing, timers, and scheduling. This turns the unit into a sleek, powerful fan when cooling isn’t needed.

Cooling Mode

Cooling mode offers four options: low, high, super, and long-lasting. Long-lasting mode is ideal for overnight use, minimizing light output and conserving water. However, it does emit slightly warmer air and benefits from placement near a window or door for ventilation.

Super mode boosts cooling and uses more water, increasing both noise and cooling effectiveness—but requires more frequent refills. If water runs out, the device continues running but with reduced effectiveness, and a warning light will appear.

It’s important to note that, being ductless, the device does release some warm air back into the room. This limits overall cooling effectiveness compared to ducted units but far surpasses standard fans. The trade-off is convenience and design—no window kits, no hoses, and effortless mobility between rooms.

Noise Levels & Sleep Use

While quieter than many air conditioners, the Morphy Richards S1 Pro ductless air conditioner still emits up to 50 dB. This is tolerable for light sleepers but may be noticeable. Long-lasting mode helps by running quietly and dimming the device’s lights.

Verdict

The Morphy Richards S1 Pro ductless air conditioner is a stylish, versatile, and modern air cooling solution. Its fan and dehumidifier modes are excellent, and the TUYA app integration is a huge bonus for smart home setups. However, the ductless design does impact cooling efficiency slightly—especially in comparison with traditional vented models.

That said, the unit’s portability, energy efficiency, and appearance make it a compelling choice for smaller spaces or those avoiding the hassle of ducts and window kits. At the Kickstarter price, it was a fantastic buy. At £700, it’s a tougher sell—but still a solid performer if design and convenience are priorities.
